Tai Chi (Taiji Quan)

Introduction of Tai Chi
Tai Chi is one of the Chinese Traditional internal martial arts practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.
Initially, Tai Chi is applied as a unique and profound self-defense technique. It originated by ShanFeng Zhang in the 12 century and later on developed into three main branches: Chen-style, Yang-style, and Wu-style. As an ancient Kong Fu, Tai Chi includes Quan, sword, broadsword, spear, push hand, etc. It is built upon the philosophy that “The soft and the pliable will defeat the hard and strong” from Dao De Jin. Tai Chi martial arts also emphasize that one is expected to show Wu De (martial virtue/heroism), protect the defenseless, and show mercy to one’s opponents.
Tai Chi practice comprises three levels: 1) correct posture and movement, 2) deep relaxation and build-up of internal qi, and 3) spiritual awareness and manipulation. Although the correct posture is the key to good practice at the beginning, those who fall in love with the external posture always get into trouble, for the supreme achievement of this art is the cultivation of spirit.
Nowadays, the Tai Chi practice is well known worldwide for its health benefits. Tai Chi – the world of balance, the world of Yin and Yang, the world of nature and relaxation will bring in a whole new lifestyle in the highly paced new era of technology. As described in one of the Harvard Health Publications from Harvard Medical School: Taiji is often described as “meditation in motion”, but it might well be called “medication in motion”. There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.
According to scientific research, it can improve our immune system and central nervous system, stabilize the cardiovascular system, reduce pain, and strengthen fitness. Through years of practice, many chronic diseases can be effectively cured or relieved such as neurasthenia, insomnia, neurosis, high blood pressure, stomach and intestines disease, kidney disease, arthritis, diabetes, hypochondria, and even obesity etc. So, it clearly illustrates the value of Tai Chi in therapy and disease prevention.
